CLAYTON L. THORNTON, AAMS®

Clay is a veteran of the financial consulting and wealth management profession, who joined the firm in May 2008 as an advisor.  He is an Accredited Asset Management Specialist® and his prior experience includes 20 years working at several top securities firms. 

He was born and raised in Summerville, which means he can wax prophetic on the proper pull of seersucker and in his words, “is not afraid to wear white bucks.”  Like all of us, Clay’s active in his community—a member of the Greater Summerville-Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce, incoming president of the Kiwanis of Summerville and member of the Francis Willis SPCA.  He’s also involved with the Summerville High School Cross Country Team and is a Lifetime Member of Summerville’s Flowertown Players.

Clay earned his B.S. in Business Administration, with a major in finance, from the University of South Carolina.  He married his college sweetheart, Sandra, who teaches kindergarten (“Robert Fulghum was right.  Everything you need to know you learned in kindergarten.”)  They have a daughter named Elizabeth, a son, Clayton Jr., who’s in high school and a competitive runner, and a grandson.  Clay’s an avid runner, who competes in races and triathlons.  He says he loves a good bowl of chicken bog and informs us that his two front teeth are fake because when he was younger, a horse kicked him in the mouth when he shoed it wrong.  One lives and learns.
